Byron Bay Sevens: Rules & Regulations

  • Registrations forms must be filled out completely and emails to info@byronbaysoccersevens.com.au or faxed back to us back two weeks before the events commences
  • The team strip must be nominated and approved BEFORE the event. First in best dressed.
  • Byron Bay Soccer Sevens has the right to the final say as to whose strip is approved
  • Age Restrictions: ALL players must be over 16 years old at the date of commencement of the event.
  • All players must wear football boots and shin pads during any all games. Shin pads made of cardboard are not permissible and will disqualify the TEAM from any points gained from that game.
  • All jewelry must be removed before each game.
  • The maximum number of players on the field at any one time is 7. The minimum numbers of players on the field is 4 except for the finals when a player drop-off system applies in extra time.
  • If a team cannot field a minimum number of 5 players, they must forfeit the game.
  • Interchange is allowed any time during the game. The referee MUST be notified and the out going player if OFF the field. Teams with more than 7 players on the field will be dealt with at the Referee’s discretion.
  • Teams are responsible for knowing what time they are playing and which field they are playing on.
  • The competition will be using the World Cup Pool system. The two Winning teams of the Pools will move into the finals series.
  • The games will consist of 2 x 20 minutes halves with a 5-minute break at half time.
  • Teams will receive 3 points for the win, 1 point for the draw and 0 point for a loss.
  • Goal difference will determine the winner if the points earned by two teams are the same.
  • Finals will use a player drop-off system until a goal is scored.
  • There is NO OFFSIDE.
  • Games will be played with a size 4 ball.
  • Two games will be played on full size field and played across the field with smaller goals.
  • A One step Rule for taking Free kicks
  • The Goal keeper can throw or kick the ball to half way
  • An Indirect Free will be awarded on the halfway line if the ball is kicked over the halfway line on the full by the goal keeper.
  • The goal keeper cannot kick the ball from his/her hands.
  • At the Referee’s discretion, a player can be given a 2 minute time out period for rough or foul play. The player must stand behind his goal during that time.
  • Any player’s action that the Referee deems inappropriate will be noted and handed to the Tournament Director and Management. A further penalty may be handed down if necessary.
  • Teams will abide with the FIFA Rules of Football in Australia.

Finals:

  • Two winners from each pool will progress to play in the Final Series.
  • Ranking in the Final Pool will assigned according to the points and then goal difference if the points are the same.
  • Finals will be a knockout Event and played in accordance with the World Cup finals system
  • In the event of a drawn final, then the golden goal will win the match. Extra time will be played for 5 minutes after which one player from each team will be dropped of every two minutes until the golden goal is struck.
